Jana Kieboam is a Holistic Health Practitioner, a Reiki Master and an intuitive counselor & life coach. She specializes in facilitating people of all ages and abilities to increase their overall quality of life through compassionate care, advocacy, self preservation and empowerment. Through the Integrative Sound Clinic, she administers The Safe and Sound Protocol (or SSP - please see below) and Reiki.
- The SSP is an auditory intervention comprised of 5 one-hour listening sessions of digitally altered music across 5 consecutive days.
- It was developed by neuroscientist, Steven Porges, Ph.D., who has studied the brain and body’s emotional arousal systems for 30+ years.
- The musical frequencies have been manipulated to exercise or “re-tune” the muscles of the middle ear.
- The middle ear is a portal to the vagus nerve, which is an essential nerve in regulating autonomic arousal. So, by toning the muscles of the middle ear, we are essentially “re-tuning” the nervous system to achieve more easily and frequently calm, relaxed, emotionally regulated, pro-social states.
- The SSP is an appropriate intervention for nearly all ages, from toddlers to elders. It is suitable to treat:
- Autism spectrum disorders, esp. auditory sensitivity
- anxiety symptoms
- ADHD
- PTSD and trauma-related symptomatology
- Emotional and behavioral dysregulation
- Chronic states of fight/flight or collapse
- Stress-related pain and GI syndromes, such as fibromyalgia and irritable bowel syndrome
- The SSP is a non-intrusive, non-medication, long-lasting (even permanent) treatment.
- There is initial empirical research supporting the SSP’s efficacy and more trials in process.
- No adverse effects have been reported or observed in children, aside from some initial physical discomfort wearing the earphones in some children on the spectrum.
- Adults with significant trauma histories can also benefit from the SSP, but may need assistance “de-sensitizing” to states of deep relaxation and calm.
