Do you feel a disconnect between your mind and your body, and therefore are inhibited to move with freedom?
Are you someone who was told not to sing out loud, only to mouth the words, and therefore are afraid to sing?
Are you struggling with trauma of any source and seek an integrative complement to talk therapy?
Do you want to restore a feeling of wellbeing and serenity within a troubled world?

TRACING sessions are for those who hold trauma due to abuse, loss, illness, injury or addiction, or for anyone seeking enhanced wellbeing.

TRACING is a therapeutic method of expressive practice, developed by Tracy Penfield. Breathing, movement and somatic work are where we begin, and other forms may be added, including writing, drawing and vocalizing (toning, singing).

TRACING is based upon the premise that we trace and retrace paths in our lives, on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual layers. We want to support and journey on the healthy paths and abolish the destructive ones. TRACING fosters healthy growth and dynamic balance. It is a healing practice.

A private session blends breathing, energy work, light bodywork and movement in a series of choices made by the participant. For people holding trauma, even breathing can be painful and scary, and moving easily, impossible.  TRACING offers a safe path back into the body, and a healing connection with the mind. Creative play may explore one or more forms, such as moving and writing about it. Participants are guided with as much or as little structure as they desire.

A group session also consists of choices, as each participant has their own physical and emotional comfort level. The group may be family members, couples, peers, and may be of mixed gender identities or specified, such as teen girls or pre-teen boys.

~All ages welcome: Tracy has conducted individual and group sessions for children, teens and adults. Safety and trust will be established as primary for each participant.

Tracy Penfield began her journey as an artist in the Fiber Arts realm and added Dance to satisfy her somatic needs. After 20 years of performing, exhibiting and teaching, she founded SafeArt, Inc. in 2000 to engage creative expression in the healing of individual and collective trauma, and the education of trauma-informed practices. Tracy has studied a diversity of artistic and healing forms, including Dance, Yoga, Textile Arts, Healing Touch, Acupressure and Voice Movement Therapy.

The cost of a TRACING session depends upon the location and length of session and is always offered on a sliding scale. The first consultation is free of charge.

To schedule: Contact Tracy using the form below, or by calling 802.685.3157. Tracy practices at the Center for Integrative Health, Hanover NH and at Altus Healing Arts, Chelsea VT.

“I feel that Tracing is a restorative link rather then a masking technique. “
